On the 10th of July fire is lit at Yasaka shrine and then carried to the main river of Kyoto, Kamogawa. They come back to the shrine and take the mikoshi - portable shrine - to the river too to cleanse it. It is finally installed in Yasaka shrine and dances are performed. The yamahoko floats are then installed in the streets of Kyoto. On the 16th, dances and music are performed at Yasaka shrine, the next day, floats and then mikoshi parade through the streets of Kyoto. On the 24th, th mikoshi finally return to Yasaka shrine.
