夏の祭りといえば東北の馬追いも欠かせない。夜行バスで仙台に行き、朝軽自動車のレンタカーを借りた。ピェールが海を見たいと言ったので松島を見に行った。夏油温泉にとまり、蔵王のお釜も見た。相馬野馬追いは馬にも武者にも過酷な暑い日だった。
東北には小学6年生のとき家族で旅行した。仙台の七夕で弟が迷子になった。妹の帽子がいつも脱げていて、首のゴムだけが目に付いた。
子どもたちが小学生のとき、寝台列車の「日本海」で青森に行った。この時はレンタカーで3泊の東北旅行だった。子どもたちは、ねぶたまつりの跳人の落とした鈴を拾い集めていた。
相馬野馬追いには20年ぐらい前、一介さんといった。そのとき泊まった栗駒温泉は土石流で流されて今はない。大好きだった澄川温泉も流されて今はもうない。温泉は自炊棟に泊まるのが楽しみ。
東北の景色は一面の青い田んぼ。日本の各地には土地の人が大切に育て、風土に合わせて時間をかけて品種改良されてきたおいしいお米がある。今、バイオテクノジーで商品化された植物の種子のなかには、次世代を作り出すための遺伝子が切り取れたものがあるそうだ。農業をしている人の手から種を取り上げてしまった。
From Kyoto, Pierre and I took a night bus for Tohoku and then rented a small car to drive around. In the mountain ranges we stayed at Geto-Onsen and walked a bit to see crater lake "Zao no Okama". Twenty years ago, Kurikoma-Onsen and Sumikawa-Onsen used to be similar hot springs, where you could cook by yourself and relax in the baths, but they no longer exist as they were washed off by avalanches. Also, Geto-Onsen was very quiet to what it used to be. On the 24th we went to the famous horse festival "Soma-No-Umaoi", where mounted samourais parade the streets and then race against each other.
